Temperament Therapy is a form of counseling that is not the traditional way of dealing with psychology. This form of therapy often works faster and helps patients more because a counselor will try to immediately identify what the problem is, and then use techniques to relieve the patient emotionally rather than spend time trying to find more hidden problems.

First to understand what Temperament Therapy is, one needs to define the term Temperament. The temperament of a human is who he or she really is. Humans are not limited strictly to a genetic makeup. The way each individual reacts to others, to situations and to the environment around them shows an inherent Temperament value. To understand this, one has to first believe that humans are created by God. Therefore there is a certain degree of humanity, emotion and instinct that is already in each individual when they are born.

Just because humans are born with a certain Temperament or blend does not mean that they are stuck to a certain behavior. Many factors influence a Temperament over time and would determine certain personality outcomes in a person’s life.

Environment plays a part in Temperament as well. For example, the best child in the world can be hardened if brought up in violent neighborhood. But a weaker child could also be made stronger in the same environment if he decides to better himself in spite of his environment. Also, God Himself can change a person by His mighty works in their life.

Temperament Therapy is a special blend of ministry and psychology where a counselor needs to use the skills of a psychologist, but then minister to the patient through coaching techniques. The counselor would need to identify the problem immediately and assist the person with trying to find out what really matters in his life.

God has a plan for each creation of His, and sometimes their own personal desires conflict with His plan and they need a little reminder to seek out what is really important in life, not just what they think may be important to them for whatever reason.

When considering therapy, Temperament may indeed have a lot to offer counselors in terms of discovering the true problems in life and being able to treat them rather than always digging deeper for more conflicts and the reasons for conflict.

It may be more beneficial to accept an issue in life as that, rather than searching for why that issue exists, or what led up to it. People who seek Temperament Therapy are often helped greatly, at a much faster rate than by those who seek psychiatry therapy.

Whenever an individual begins to consider therapy, they traditionally begin to envision themselves and a counselor sitting in a room discussing their problems. However, Christian therapy is fairly different from what many people consider therapy to be. This type of therapy is normally used as a way for married couples and individuals to improve both their emotional as well as their spiritual health.

This type of therapy can benefit the different ways that an individual views their relationships with Christ, themselves and other people. Emotional health along with spiritual health, are normally two factors that people have a hard problem trying to decipher.

With Christian therapy, you will be put into the loving hands of a spiritually bound counselor. Just like in traditional therapy sessions, you will be given the opportunity to voice your opinion about problems that you are facing in your own life.

However, be aware that this type of therapy is not for the faint at heart. A lot of people tend to be made aware of different issues and thoughts that they had no inclination of, through these structured therapy sessions. All therapists that engage in these sessions with you will be licensed, and skilled in their line of work.

Not only will you be taught how to walk with Christ and be guided down the right spiritual path, you will also be taught certain things about yourself and how shaping your spirituality can actually help you shape the person that you are as well.

There are a lot of people that try everything that they can to steer clear of Christian centered activities. However, even though this type of therapy may bear the name Christian in its name it is not always as bad as one views it to be.

An individual will be given the guidelines that they need to follow in order to help themselves cope with emotional problems and problems in their relationships. The counselors that you will speak with are skilled in their trade, and they will work with you to help you find your way in this world.

The counselors are not going to judge you for the things that you convey to them. However, if you are going to attend one of these therapy sessions it would behoove you to have an open mind and an open heart about what you are being taught.

The only way that an individual can change something about themselves is if they are willing to do so. Remember, that Christian therapy can help you uncover different things about yourself that you were unaware of. However, it is up to you to believe in the power of God, and change these adverse things about yourself in order to reap the benefits of these therapy sessions.

Christian Therapy has its Fundamentals in psychology and theological knowledge which comes from God’s Word, the Bible. The idea of incorporating the Bible into a psychology therapy was determined by, God knows us better than any person on Earth and He is the only one that could change us in any way. That includes the mind, will and emotions of every human being!

In this therapy, we incorporate psychological knowledge to find and tell the patient the reality of his or her situation, which means what mental disease he or she has: anxiety, eating disorders, depression, addiction. Utilizing psychology appropriately help us to scientifically understand our patient and identify the methods we need to use to help them. By knowing God’s Word and having Jesus as our role model; we encourage our patients to overcome their illness. It gives them hope and motivation to face their issues and to walk the hard road of recovery.

This kind of therapy is really effective in both psychological and theological ways, when handled by a trained Christian Therapist. One aspect helps the client with addressing their psychological problems, and at the same time helps them with their spiritual problems. This makes the therapy more versatile and effective. It’s like pealing an onion to get at the root or the core of the problem!

To be a really effective therapy, there has to be a good Christian therapist. This person would have to be a professional that knows how to apply the therapy they have chosen like: cognitive therapy, psychoanalysis, gestalt; and a Bible teacher that knows the passages and their true meaning can make the patient see Jesus as an example and a role model, which would bring God’s Word to life for them, perhaps for the first time ever.

Other important elements of Christian therapy that are included are prayer and meditation. This helps to give clients the opportunity to communicate with God, and to seriously consider why it is that they have their infirmity or disease and how it is affecting others. The most important thing for them to do is to turn to God, be forgiven and to forgive themselves. This will help them in their healing process which eventually leads to a life of peace, joy and meaningful contentment.

Another important element is Bible Study. As we and our patients read and study through the Bible, we can experience growth in our spirit. In this part of the therapy both patient and therapist learn with God’s help through the Holy Spirit’s leading.

Christian therapy is one of the most effective therapies that is being practiced today. It helps produce growth mentally, and most important spiritually. This will help a person get back on the right road, and help resolve the problems they have Biblically. With this therapy, the patient will be sure that God is there to help him or her out, in their time of crisis and need.

copyright(c)2010 Dr. Paul E. McLaughlin

There are many reasons as to why people go through Christian therapy. There are many therapists who practice other forms of therapy, but for many, they prefer this method of practice. If you wonder why, we have some of the reasons here for you.

One of the first reasons that many go through this model of counseling is because this type tends to offer more hope and encouragement. Other types of therapy will tell you how to piece things back together, but those who go to a Christian counselor find that they offer you more structure, they genuinely care about you more. They aren’t so much doctors, but you tend to see them as best friends.

Another reason is that those who have a Christian background are convinced that when they go to a Christian therapist or counselor, they are going to someone who will not discard or be insensitive to the basic beliefs they were raised with. Prayer for example is one of the things that they ask be included in the sessions. They might also include your pastor and so forth.

The other reason that people go to a Christian counselor is because of the fact that they believe that a Christian counselor will help them grow. People who have problems want to learn how to grow from them personally and on a spiritual level. When they do this sort of counseling, they find that this is what they gain from it.

Some find that with Christian therapy, they learn other things that secular therapists don’t even suggest. One of the topics might be forgiveness. There are many things that they teach that a therapist might suggest, but they don’t counsel with what you want to hear, but what it is you need to hear before making an uninformed decision. It goes back to the whole idea they are open to offering other

suggestions and sharing their feelings and support as well from the Word of God.

Last of all, this has been seen to strengthen your relationship. They have a lot more training and most of that training is done in order for them to learn to connect with individuals and how to minister to them. They understand the trichotomy (body, soul and spirit) of the person and are more apt to be considerate to what the clients real needs are Biblically.

It has been seen that those who go through Christian counseling have a better chance at getting back on track to where they were. They have a better success rate than others; which is what many seeking spiritual counseling want. Most of the best recommendations you might get from counselors in your area, might just be from those who practice Christian therapy.
