The A. P. S. (Temperament Analysis Profile) is a computerized report created by Drs. Richard and Phyllis Arno of the Sarasota Academy of Christian Counseling in Sarasota, Florida and is provided for Professional Christian Counselors.

The A. P. S. deals with the inner person rather than outer manifestations or problems. In 1983 Drs. Arno began research and developing a scriptural based therapeutic procedure that would produce effective, positive and more immediate results with those needing guidance / counsel.

A Temperament Analysis Profile is similar to personality testing, but actually is not. Personality is the mask we wear and is formed as a result of how we were parented, the environment in which we grew up and circumstances that have occurred throughout our lives. Our temperament is who we really are underneath. Who we are determines the choices we make in life (friends, spouse, career) and how we interact with our significant others.

The Arno Profile System does not measure a person’s behavior; it identifies a person’s in-born God-given temperament. Who God created us to be (temperament) and who we have become (through learned behavior) can be entirely different. We need to find out who we really are and find ways to become the person God wants us to be (the true self) instead of the person we have learned to be (the masked self).

By filling out an A. P. S. Response form which is a 10 minute questionnaire containing 54 questions you will learn your unique temperament in 3 areas: Inclusion (Mind), Control (Will), and Affection (Emotions) and will stop asking, “Why am I the way I am?” or “Why do I keep making the same mistakes?” and you will start asking, “How can I use, my temperament for the glory of God and the advancement of His kingdom?” The A. P. S. report details your unique strengths and weaknesses and gives suggestions for how to get your basic needs met and find balance in your life.

Presently over 3,000 Christian leaders and professional Christian counselors rely on the Arno Profile System to aid them in their counseling efforts. These Christians report an accuracy rate of over 90%.

CLINICAL REPORT: This would be used by Dr. Paul McLaughlin of “God’s Way Services” while counseling you either in person or by phone. Upon completion of counseling, a “Special Personal Profile” (not the clinical report) can be sent to you.

PERSONAL REPORT: This can be given or sent directly to you.

PERSONNEL REPORT: This is used to advise you and or / a prospective employer of the occupations you would be best suited for.

NOTE: If you desire your teenager or child be counseled by Dr. McLaughlin, a Clinical Report can be generated to assist Dr. McLaughlin with your child’s unique temperament. A portion of this report called “Parental Recommendations” may be given or sent to you and will help you to understand your child’s unique temperament and what you as a parent can do to train up your child (Proverbs 22:6) according to his / her God-given temperament.
